The Times Aren’t Changing


You can say it as you see it
Let the chips fall where they may
If you’re mind is always growing
Then your mind is bound to change

Once you get to Washington
So naive and so green
They’ll invite you to their cocktail parties
With their big Lobbies
And all your good intentions

There’s a patient at a hospital
Being turned away
He can’t afford the procedure
And no one wants to pay
So he’ll go home to his family
and on his bed he’ll lay

There’s a big crowd that likes to shout
America is great

And it’s kinda funny in the land of the free
We have more jailbirds than any other country
And some we put to work
Paying them only pennies
Not that different
From slavery

But we’re created in God’s image
So the Declaration claims
No matter race, creed, or religion
Our rights are all the same
But when we get pulled over
Police play a different game
Unless we force the change
Nothing will change

But the dumbest people shout the most
In every single crowd
And they’re the ones the nightly news
Choses to single out
So your protest will be reframed by
Wackos from out of town
And you’re righteous message
Watered down

A public speaker heads to campus
Arguing for free speech
Owning all the easy targets telling him to leave
He’s hoping for a spectacle
He came to make a scene
Cause if the students yell
His book will sell

There’s are soldiers in Afghanistan
Acting like it’s Pinkville 
Shooting indiscriminate
Till villagers get killed
Footage leaked on the internet
Gave the public a chill
But the news will fade
Nothing will change

Our brave Whistleblowers
Hiding overseas
The power wants to lock em up
and throw away the keys
The public says they’re heroes
Who stood up for liberty
On the line they laid
And nothing changed

A woman runs for office
Challenging the status quo
Won’t take any funding
From the campaign wolves
And her grass roots movement
Was growing beautiful
But on election day
More of the same
